The time has come……SAY NO TO KELMARSH HALL WINDFARM

Two really significant developments -

·        English Heritage have now registered the gardens and a large area of parkland around Kelmarsh Hall and given them the very prestigious Grade 2* listing, which indicates the grounds are “considered to be of exceptional historic interest”. The site of the proposed turbines is a mere few hundred metres from this protected land.

·        The site of the turbines is entirely within a large area of the estate which is covered by the HMRC’s Heritage Asset scheme. This means that the Estate was given tax exemption from death duties in exchange for committing to protect and preserve the land for future generations to enjoy. Should this development go ahead the Kelmarsh Trust is likely to be facing a massive back tax bill, which could run to several million pounds and potentially have a devastating effect on the long term future of this historically significant Hall and landscape.

The Planning Application has been submittedNow that energy giant e-on have submitted their planning application to build a windfarm on the historic Kelmarsh estate, our campaign will obviously be moving up into top gear to oppose this development.

There will be regular updates posted on this site, including dates of public meetings and how best to register your opposition to e-on’s plans.

The ‘Met Mast’ is coming

We have been waiting for this, E-ON have finally submitted a planning request.

Thankfully not for the wind farm, but they have asked for permission to erect a 60 metre anemometer, more commonly known as a met mast. E-ON will use this to gather wind speed data over the coming months, the planning request states that the mast will be in place for up to 24 months. The plans show that the mast will be erected between Tally Ho covert and the A14, adjacent to the byway that runs between Haselbech and Clipston. Maybe the data E-ON will collect from this mast will finally convince them of the fact that we all know - this is a very low wind speed area. We can only hope that common sense will then prevail, but somehow we doubt it!

As we understand it, virtually no similar planning request has ever been refused, so we accept that this mast is very likely to go up. The local parishes that have contacted us and who have responded to the planning application, have asked the council for assurances that the mast be a sufficient distance from the byway, so as not to cause any potential hazard and health and safety issues if it were to topple over.

This application for a met mast shows that wheels have most certainly been set in motion for the full wind farm application, and we will continue to plan our fight against that.

The Trustees have signed up

We have just discovered that the Trustees of the Kelmarsh Hall Estate have signed an agreement with E.ON, which could mean that a planning application being submitted very shortly.

We will be posting details of who to write to and object as soon as the planning application arrives. In the meantime the most important thing is to get our raise membership numbers, so if you have not joined yet, or know of any family, friends or colleagues that might support us; the easiest way to join us is via the ‘Join Us’ section of this website.

We will post all further developments as soon as we hear anything.

Public meetings

Many thanks to everyone who came along to the latest public meeting in Arthingworth on 24th April, it was encouraging to see the level of opposition to this proposal still growing. In addition to the overwhelming support and interest following our previous meetings in Naseby, Maidwell and Clipston over 350 people from the surrounding villages have now attended our meetings.
